Some great safety advice regarding Halloween costumes for Dogs (and any pet)
Is your dog wearing a costume this Halloween? If so check out the safety tips below to keep in mind to make this holiday a safe one.
1. Don’t force your dog to wear a costume if he doesn’t want to!! Remember, Halloween is supposed to be fun for everyone; you don’t want your dog to be sad and anxious.
2. How is your dog’s energy level? If your dog is a bit hyperactive, he could “shake off” a costume that has several parts.
3. Make sure the costume is the right size. If the costume is too big, your dog can trip over it and injure himself/herself.
4. Does the costume doesn’t have any pieces your dog can bite off or choke on?
5. Make sure the costume allows him to “go potty” when needed.
6. Your dog should try on the costume ahead of time, if possible, to make sure he can get used to it.
7. Remember to keep your dog away from any burning candles, fires or cigarettes
8.Your dog can get very sick if he eats candy he finds laying around the house or yard.
9. Beware of candy wrappers too! Some dogs like to eat candy wrappers because of the smell, but wrappers could cause your dog to choke.
Choosing the right costume may be a bit more difficult this year, but the good news is that there could be another way for your dog to enjoy Halloween….
Just give them something they are sure to love like their OWN toy or treat!!
